ABOUT OUR PRESIDENT…

Ben Walker

Ben grew up with a hammer in his hand, in a southern Baptist home in Georgia. His father was a home builder, so at a very young age, he was out in the garage using a saw, nailing together any scrap wood he could find and creating works of art (he was very proud of his soap box derby cars and elaborate tree forts). He learned everything he knows from his father. When he was old enough to legally be on a job site, Ben spent every opportunity working alongside his father during summers and holiday vacations. He not only learned the intricacies of home building and remodeling from his father, but also the strong work ethic and customer service that go hand-in-hand with the Southern values he holds today.

Ben’s mother was also an inspiration and influence in his life and skill set. She was a great artist, who taught him color theory, design behavioral psychology and all other aspects of design principles. At a young age Ben started building his personal design style and methodology.  Together with the grace, patience and skill sets passed down from both parents, Ben’s passion for designing and building beautiful and exceptional products came to life.

Ben earned a Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech (but yes, he did marry a Bulldog) and studied Industrial Design. He continued to nurture his design/build passion during his journey at Tech. He gained a great understanding and appreciation for the psychology of user-focused design/experience, as well as how we can use local, healthy and sustainable resources to build our homes and products. While at Georgia Tech, Ben began designing and building full-scale furniture.

Graduating during a time that design jobs were scarce, Ben began building a career in marketing and software product management. He went back to Georgia Tech to earn his MBA and Masters in Industrial Design, and continued to advance in his career. However, he never stopped learning and teaching himself about home renovations, designing interior spaces and furniture design.

Ben continued to advance in his career as a marketing executive, with over 18 years of experience in technology, product management and marketing; however, he still found himself unfulfilled. He spent his weekends and holidays doing what he loved – renovating his home, the homes of his family and friends, and designing or building furniture. So, Ben decided to make a jump over the proverbial chasm and pursue his passion to design and build beautiful living spaces and furniture.

Spindle & Oak was created to do just that – serve people by helping them create beautiful homes. It is our belief that if we can strive for excellence in our passion for beautiful homes, while instilling the Southern values of exceptional craftsmanship, customer service and community support, then we can create something much larger than ourselves.

Ben lives with his best friend and love of his life, Laine. They have three little girls and live in Sandy Springs, Georgia. They can be found on weekends enjoying family time in a local park, volunteering with various non-profits around Atlanta and spending time with family and friends. Ben and his family attend East Cobb Church (a partner church to North Point Community Church), where Jamey Dickens is lead pastor.
