Should I Work With a Designer?

Should I work with a designer? This is a question many clients ask and the answer could be different depending on the project. A designer is defined as “a person who plans the form, look, or workings of something before its being made or built.” If you find yourself hesitant in choosing the style and features of your home remodeling project, then a designer may be a great help. If you already have a pretty good idea of what you want your dream space to look like, then a designer may not be necessary for your project. However, even then you may not have the time to invest in selecting all your finishes, and a designer can be a great investment then as well.

A big misconception that we encounter is that designers will come in with a vision of only the things they think should go in the space- reflecting trends they like, and that the client won’t really like it because it’s not their style. In fact, our designers will spend time getting to know you and learning what your personal style is at the very beginning. They want to tailor their recommendations to what you are going to love. Regardless of whether or not you use a designer, we encourage all of our clients to get involved in the planning surrounding the designs for their home remodeling projects. Sharing ideas through Pinterest boards, Houzz Ideabooks, and emails full of Google images are just a few of the ways many of our clients are able to communicate their style to the Spindle & Oak team.

Here are some of the reasons why working with one of our designers may be a good option for you and your next home project:

Indecision concerning the stylistic direction of a space. If you find yourself in love with two completely different styles (perhaps craftsman style and modern farmhouse) and can’t figure out which to choose or how you can combine them, a designer can help! Since our designers are experts within their field, they know the most about styles and trends as well as the version of those that can stand the test of time. They can help you shape your vision into reality.

No time for this!  Many of us would love to spend our time planning every aspect of our home renovation project, but this can be a difficult goal to reach when we only have so much time in a day. For our clients who want to be involved, but don’t have the bandwidth for extensive planning, using a designer can be a great way to bridge the gap.

The vision is there- but we need to fit it into this specific space.  If you consider yourself part of the “I know exactly what I want” camp, a designer can help make your dream work in your space in ways you may never have even considered. Having a fresh perspective from someone who understands your vision answers the question, “Is there anything I’m not thinking of?” Also, once you’re in the thick of a thousand decisions, they can help you across the finish line. For example, you’ve narrowed down your backsplash to 4 options and you’re in analysis paralysis. A designer can help you make those decisions.

With one of our designer’s help, you can feel comfortable knowing that the decision was made with the discernment of an industry expert. This means you are getting the best quality for your investment. Interested in learning more about our design process? Contact us for a free consultation!
